 The board is back!...... check it out TUESDAY, 19 June 01 Chino Morenoıs "Team Sleep" project has been buzzed about since he started
working on it nearly a year ago. Chino, along with childhood buddy Todd Wilkenson and good
friend DJ Crook, spent this Spring holed up in a Seattle studio with producer Terry Date
(Deftones) recording the CD for release on "Itıs a very moody record, beat oriented," explains Moreno, who played guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums on the album. "Each song has a different theme, a different sound, thereıs a lot of fantasy going on, and instead of writing songs about myself or my life, Iıve just let my imagination go crazy." The 1978 Jonestown mass suicide sets the musical theme for "Kool-Aid Party," the working title for a song that uses only piano, guitar, and a simple drum program. The instrumental track "King Diamond" evokes the Renaissance period with its harpsichord sample; another as yet untitled track was inspired by the sounds of the Spanish Inquisition; while the song "Ligeia" came about after Chino read Edgar Allan Poe's poem of the same name. The idea for Team Sleep had its genesis when Deftones' label Maverick, asked for an
acoustic version of the band's "Be Quiet And Drive." "I really enjoyed
doing that," said Chino. "It was simple, I could work on the music by myself,
and use ideas that I hadn't used for the Deftones. Beginning in early 2000, Chino, Todd,
and Crook started exchanging tapes with each other "I expected the album to be a lot more mellow that it is, but just by nature, it ended up being a little more up tempo than I anticipated, but it's good, it's good."
